About the Authors

Chip Berlet is senior analyst at Political Research Associates in Somerville, MA. A founding editor of this newsletter, his work has also appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe, and Mother Jones magazine. He is the editor of the collection, Eyes Right!: Challenging the Right Wing Backlash, (Boston, South End Press, 1995); and wrote "Who's Mediating the Storm? Right-wing Alternative Information Networks," in Culture, Media, and the Religious Right, eds. Linda Kintz & Julia Lesage (University of Minnesota Press, forthcoming 1998).

Matthew N. Lyons is an independent historian and activist in Albuquerque, NM. He is the author of The Grassroots Network: Radical Nonviolence in the Federal Republic of Germany, 1972-1985 (Cornell University Center for International Studies, 1989), and "Business Conflict and Right-Wing Movements in the United States," in Unraveling the Right: The New Conservatism in American Thought and Politics, Amy Elizabeth Ansell, ed. (Westview, 1998).

They are co-authors of Right-Wing Populism in America: Too Close for Comfort, (New York: Guilford Press, 2000); and co-authored the article, "Militia Nation" in The Progressive, June 1995.
