Church to pay for discrimination

Bridgeport, Connecticut St. Raphael's Church agreed to pay $10,000 to a woman who said she was denied a church-owned rental apartment because she was divorced. Natalie Al-Kasas, said church officials told her they wanted to rent the apartment to a married couple.

The Rev. Carducci D'Amico said he preferred married couples as tenants because the apartment was located adjacent to St. Margaret's Shrine. While the church agreed to compensate the mother of three, the church claimed that the payment did not constitute an admission of violation of the state's fair housing laws.
