Abortion tops AFA's 'pro-family' agenda

Tupelo, Mississippi While deploring the Holocaust, American Family Association affiliate director David Miller likened abortion in America to a "US holocaust." He said, "it is estimated that over 37,000,000 babies have died at the hands of abortionists. This is more than six times greater than the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by Hitler." He said that after visiting the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, he wondered how such a heinous thing could happen without much opposition. "Then I realized that, yes, it is happening in America today. Our holocaust victims are our own preborn children."

According to Pat Trueman, the AFAs' director of governmental affairs, banning partial birth abortion" tops the "pro-family" agenda. Other goals include: passing the "Child Custody Protection Act," which would prohibit anyone other than a parent taking a minor across state lines for an abortion; elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts; prohibiting physician-assisted suicide under the federal Controlled Substance Act; passing the new Istook Amendment, which would prohibit the distribution of birth control devices through federally funded family planning clinics; elimination of tax-funded population control programs in developing countries; and passing the "Ten Commandments Defense Act," which would permit the display of the Ten Commandments in public places.
