Statistical Abstract of the United States, 115th edition,
issued in September 1995, reports that for 1988, per 100 divorces,
11.8 involved women under 20 years of age, 55.7 between 20 and 29,
25.8 between 30 and 44, and 6.8, 45 or older.
Statistics show that divorces rose in the years after California — and
by 1985 all of the other 49 states — adopted no-fault divorce law
provisions.
There are year-to-year fluctuations, but the divorce rate has been
below 5 percent since 1985. It was 4.6 percent in 1993, the latest
year for which figures were available.
In Michigan, divorces per thousand have steadily declined from 4.9 in
1980 to 4.3 in 1985 to 4.1 in 1990, according to Statistical
Abstract.
