Focus on the Family sends a message to GOP chairman

Dear Mr. Barbour,

We, the undersigned, are attorneys at law and spouses who are gathered in Colorado Springs, Colorado to participate in an attorney's conference sponsored by Focus on the Family. While our agenda has focused on the task of balancing faith, family and practice, we are united in our belief that the Republican National Committee (RNC) will harm itself irreparably if it weakens its cherished principle of protecting preborn life.

Frankly, we wonder how anyone in RNC leadership could believe that a pro-life stance is a political liability when not a single pro-life incumbent lost a congressional election to a pro-abortion challenger last November 8, and over 40 new pro-life seats were gained in that election.

Please do not underestimate the importance of the pro-life position to the voters who delivered the congressional majority you now enjoy. If the RNC abandons its clear pro-life position, then you leave us and millions like us with no recourse but to consider a third party candidate for president in 1996.
