In early May Ralph Reed, who left the helm of the Christian Coalition in 1997, was elected as chairman of the Georgia Republican Party. Reed campaigned throughout the state, easily defeating his two opponents.
Critics who thought Reed's tenure at the Christian Coalition, and several failed campaigns run by the 39 year-old political consultant, would be enough to defeat him, were mistaken.
"You never would want to underestimate his political skills," commented Emory University political science professor Merle Black.
