Inside the Wakefield MA, public library Matt Hale of the World Church of the Creator was speaking to a small audience. Outside in the street, supporters of the National Alliance and other racists were demonstrating in support of White supremacy and antisemitism. Counterdemonstrators confronted them. Tactical police from a statewide unit consistently misunderstood the dynamic, and several scuffles were the result. Militant non-violent counterdemonstrations to confront hate groups are one way to stand up against organized racism. Physical confrontations are an inappropriate distraction from the political message except when necessary for self defense.
