PRA co-hosts townhall on Suspicious Activity Reporting
study with CAIR-Los Angeles

Community members are invited to join PRA and Council on American-Islamic Relations-Los Angeles (CAIR-LA) for a discussion on the institutionalization of Suspicious Activity Reporting and its ramifications on communities affected by our nation’s counter-terrorism policies.

Civil Liberties project director Thomas Cincotta, joined by investigator Mary Fischer, will discuss Political Research Associates’ new study: Platform for Prejudice: How the Nationwide Suspicious Activities Reporting Initiative Institutionalizes Domestic Surveillance, Invites Racial Profiling, and Undermines Security. This full report will be released shortly.

We will also be joined by Peter Bibring, staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union-Southern California (ACLU-SC) and by other academics, activists, and individuals to discuss this important and highly-debated topic. The discussion will include someone with first-hand experience of the negative effects of Suspicious Activity Reporting: the individual was detained for 40 minutes by Henderson Police officers for simply praying in a parking lot. CO-SPONSORS: Political Research Associates, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace, Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Greater Los Angeles Area.
