WHAT?
A day long conference of religious and community activists teaching how to become more effective advocates for progressive public policy.
WHEN?
Friday, April 17,1998 9:00AM to 4:00PM.
WHERE?
University Baptist Church 2200 San Antonio Austin, TexasWHY?
Historically the American religious community was in the forefront of the battles for equal rights, programs for the poor, and economic justice. Today, however, religion is often equated with a far right political agenda that calls for less support for public programs, champions individual property rights and wealth, and defines families and communities in an exclusive manner.
WHO?
Activists, religious leaders, laity, and interested community members!
What will you learn?
Up to date information on issues you care about - including the environment, poverty programs, immigration, public education and more; organizing and media training to be effective advocates; what to anticipate from the religious right movement in the months ahead.
Why should you attend?
To be renewed and inspired; to meet great speakers and activists from across the country, and to become a more effective advocate for a more compassionate state and country.
Keynote Address
Reverend Timothy McDonald, First Iconium Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia.
